Igor Fraga was born and raised in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. He was first exposed to social dancing at 14 when he began learning Forró. Although he has always been passionate about dance, at the beginning it was just a hobby. That all changed when he saw Zouk for the first time. “I was 21 years old and it changed my life. I fell in love with it at first sight,” he says. He was dazzled by the sensual and beautiful moves and just couldn’t stop watching. “From that moment I knew that Zouk was the dance for me—the one thing I was looking for my whole life, and I didn’t even know it.” At that point he made up his mind to dedicate himself to Zouk.
He found Zouk NY just a year after moving to the U.S., and first learned with Kim Rottier and Henri Velandia. Looking to further his studies, he expanded his mastery of the craft by learning from international instructors including Kadu & Larissa, Dadinho & Aline, K-Yo & Renata, and many others specializing in various styles: Rio-Zouk, NeoZouk, ZoukFlow, and RnB Zouk. In January 2013 he became a certified instructor through Zouk NY. He is no stranger to competing in zouk and in pure Igor fashion, won the Brazilian Beat Congress in Toronto in ’13. Igor has been teaching group classes and privates for Zouk NY since June ’13 in New York, Boston, and Washington D.C. He’s also becoming known throughout North America as an acclaimed DJ in the genre of Zouk music. “I hope to spread the Zouk love as much as I can. My goal is to inspire people in the way that I was inspired by my teachers and by all of the instructors around the world.”Buy Pass
